Islamic Arts Biennale Jeddah

Shahpour Pouyan, an Iranian artist residing in London, presents “My Place is the Placeless,” which consists of three enormous architectural domes of varying colours. These domes represent the three main traces in the artist’s DNA, which were discovered through a DNA test to include Scandinavia, Central and South Asia, and the Middle East in addition to his native Iran.
In an endeavour to eliminate ethnic labels and identities, Pouyan told Arab News that the concept of human interconnectivity was at stake.
Like the other pieces on display, Pouyan’s work examines not only Islamic culture but also how universal it is, how it can connect with people outside of the Middle East, and how it may serve as a unifying force that transcends nationality, religion, and culture.
